Fidow family hits the road to back Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow’s push for NRL Grand Final

Simon Fidow still can’t quite believe his son is playing in an NRL preliminary final, but the father of flyer Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow won’t be sharing too many pearls of wisdom with the speedster.

SIMON Fidow still can’t quite believe his son is playing in an NRL preliminary final, but the father of flyer Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow won’t be sharing too many pearls of wisdom with the 21-year-old speedster.

“My words of wisdom stopped when he made Origin, he’s a professional now,” Fidow said with a laugh.

“I’m still playing around here in the amateurs so he’s got to throw me some tips.”

The entire Fidow family, Sy, mum Karina, plus his four brothers and two sisters - packed into the car early Thursday to travel to Townsville, where they will watch the man known to the rest of the NRL world as Hammer feature in one of the biggest games of his career.

WHERE TO WATCH THE COWBOYS FINAL IN CAIRNS

Tabuai-Fidow’s Cowboys have a chance to play their way into the club’s first grand final since 2017 if they can beat the Eels at Queensland Country Bank Stadium.

The preliminary final will be Tabuai-Fidow’s 50th game in the NRL, and comes in the same year he played for the Indigenous All Stars.

He also made his Origin debut in 2021, when he scored a try.

“There’s only a limited amount of tickets they’re allowed to give to the team, and we just fit in the category with eight,” Fidow said.

“We cruise down in the morning, then (will) chill out for the rest of the day with him and prepare for the game.

“ (Hamiso) just keeps ticking off all the boxes.

“He’s achieving a lot with the Cowboys this year, it’s really good the team is sitting where they’re sitting compared to last year.”

Tabuai-Fidow and Jeremiah Nanai will fly the flag for Cairns in the Cowboys’ 17.

Finals fever has swept over Cairns ahead of the Cowboys’ first home preliminary final.

Mick Hasler has decorated the bar at the Crown Hotel in NRL bunting ahead of the preliminary final, while the Courtyard’s general manager Benjamin Power has an enticing offer if North Queensland can make the NRL Grand Final.
