Cairns car crime: Gordonvale woman, 74, in stand-off with kids during alleged armed robbery

A 74-year-old Cairns women has bravely stood her ground against a group of kids who allegedly broke into her home brandishing a weapon before attempting to steal her car.

A 74-year-old woman has prevented a group of kids from stealing her car, which was parked in her garage, by sitting in the front seat.

Officers from the Cairns Property Crime Squad have laid 45 charges following investigations into the alleged armed robbery of the woman at a Gordonvale home on December 16.

Police will allege several teens gained entry to the home at 7.10am, searching the residence before threatening the woman with a knife and making off with her handbag and car keys.

The woman was not physically injured.

A 13-year-old was previously charged with this offence on December 18.

The boy was refused police bail and will appear in the Cairns Children’s Court.

Detectives also charged a 12-year-old Gordonvale boy on Thursday with a total of 11 offences including one count each of armed robbery in company, attempted unlawful use of a vehicle, unlawful use of a vehicle, stealing, possess dangerous drugs, enter dwelling with intent in company, two counts of attempted enter dwelling with intent in company and three counts of enter dwelling and commit.

A 17-year-old Cairns girl was charged with a total of 18 offences including one count each of armed robbery in company, attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle and attempted enter dwelling with intent in company, two counts each of stealing and unlicensed driving, three counts of enter dwelling and commit and seven counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

A 17-year-old Manoora boy was charged with a total of 16 offences including one count each of armed robbery in company, attempted enter dwelling, attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of stealing and five counts each of enter dwelling and commit and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Police allege all listed offences occurred this month, in Gordonvale and Cairns.

They are scheduled to appear in the Cairns Childrens Court after all three were refused police bail.
