BFL wrap: All the football results from Bellarine round 8

The Kangaroos held off a fast-finishing Newcomb side to clinch their third win of the season, while another BFL team poured on 40 goals. Read the full wrap of the round here.

ANGLESEA has held on to a 14-point win against Newcomb in a hotly-contested match, despite the Power getting within two points late in the game.

The Kangaroos led for most of the game before a late flurry of Newcomb goals put the Power within reach, but Anglesea held on for a 12.13 (85) to 11.5 (71) victory.

Anglesea co-coach Jordan Keras said Newcomb provided his squad with a great test, and he was really pleased they were able to hold onto victory.

“To the boys credit they stuck it out and really dug deep, it’s a great reward for what we’ve been trying to build at the club,” he said.

“All game it felt like we had control of the game, so it was disappointing to let them back in with one or two inside 50s that converted into goals late.

“But we had some young guys step up around the ground, and that’s the beauty of where we’re at as a club, these young guys are developing fast and pushing us forward.”

The result puts Anglesea above Newcomb on the BFL ladder, with the Kangaroos just a win and percentage outside of the top five.

Newcomb coach Jye Walker said he could not fault his side’s effort.

“We’ve spoken a lot about effort in the last few weeks, we had dropped off and given opposition the chance to kick four or five goals in a row, but today they really dug in,” he said.

“The execution was the bit that got us, we turned the footy over at critical stages and it cost us.”

Barwon Heads v Portarlington

It was goals galore for the Seagulls, who kicked 40.24 (264) against Portarlington’s 3.6 (24) in a demolition display.

Barwon Heads had 14 individual goal kickers, including 10 to Charlie Hurst, six to Sammy Baker and five to Braeden Eddy.

Drysdale v Modewarre

The Hawks continued its unbeaten start to the BFL season, winning 18.14 (122) to 16.7 (103) against Modewarre.

Drysdale forward Matthew Gunn slotted four goals for the victors, but Modewarre’s Tom Hornsey kicked seven majors in the loss.

Geelong Amateur v Ocean Grove

The Grubbers clawed back to within a goal at the final change after trailing for much of the game against Geelong Amateur, but a third-quarter surge was not enough to get the win.

Geelong Amateur kicked three goals to one in the final term to run away 10.15 (75) to 8.8 (56) victors, with Ammos David McNeel proving an influential piece in the win.

Torquay v Queenscliff

A six-goal haul to Torquay’s Ben Raidme was the highlight of the Tigers’ 22.14 (146) to 9.10 (64) win against the Coutas.

Weylin Doyle and Cooper Heard also kicked four goals each for Torquay as the win solidifies its spot in the top two on the BFL ladder.
