Northern Territory brewers are coming together to help one of their own this weekend, with a fundraiser, Pints for a Purpose, being held at Beaver Brewery on Saturday.
The event is being held to raise money for Kylie Asonovski, of Purple Mango Brewery, who was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer.
Beaver Brewery, Alice Springs Brewery (ASB), Darwin Brewing Company (DBC) and Purple Mango are all providing the beer for the event.
They hope to raise $20,000 for Ms Asonovski.
Beaver Brewery owner Chris Brown said plans were in motion to help the Asonovski family as soon as the other brewers heard of her diagnosis.
“The brewing industry up here sort of supports each other,” he said.
“Ryan’s (DBC) very new to the industry but myself, Kyle from ABS, and Adam and at Purple Mango are genuinely mates. We talk every week, just to see what’s going on, not to even talk about beer. Kyle is actually flying up for the event.
“The idea came about because me and Kyle were talking, and when your mates are in trouble, you’ve got to help them out and we just said ‘right, we’re going to do this.’”
They plan to host as many as 200 people at Beaver Brewery, with a ticket purchase granting customers three hours of as much craft beer as they can drink.
There is also a $1000 dollar lucky door prize, 45 prizes up for grabs via a raffle and an eight item auction that will include things like fishing charters worth around $2000.
Mr Brown said he was blown away with everyone’s generosity and their efforts to make sure the event would get underway to raise money for “a special person”.
“Kylie is an amazing person, and an amazing cook,” he said.
“But just a genuinely lovely person. They say it only happens to the good ones and it’s true you know, she’s a lovely person and doesn’t deserve it.
“But we have just got to stick with her and try to help her out the other side of it, and do as much as we can to alleviate the stress and the burden of what she’s going through.”
Tickets need to be pre-purchased, and can be obtained via: facebook.com/events/766497535361557.
Mr Brown encouraged residents to come to the event.
“If we sell a hundred tickets, that is $10,000 and we are already halfway there,” he said.
