A man on remand for allegedly possessing child abuse material on two encrypted micro-SD is now out on bail after he appeared before a judge.
The 69-year-old man – who NT News cannot name due to Territory suppression laws – appeared before Judge David Woodroffe in the Alice Springs Local Court on Thursday, July 18.
Judge Woodroffe closed the court before he granted the man bail.
He cited “the nature of proceedings” as his reasoning.
The man was arrested by the Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team on July 4 after they searched a property in Gillen in May.
Police said the search uncovered two encrypted micro-SD cards, which after police analysis, allegedly contained child abuse material.
Police charged the man with three counts of accessing child abuse material, two counts of possessing or controlling child abuse material, and one count of failure to comply with an order to provide information or assistance.
He was on remand and first appeared in court on July 8.
