Construction will begin on nine new homes in the Mount Nancy Town Camp in Alice Springs, after a tender was awarded to Tangentyere Constructions.
The build is part of a $40m town camp overhaul in the Red Centre town, and is the last tender to be announced.
Charles Creek, Hoppys, Hidden Valley, Ilpeye Ilpeye, Warlpiri, Karnte, Larapinta Valley, Little Sisters, Morris Soak, and Trucking Yards will also receive a combined 63 new builds as part of the $40m in funding.
In Mount Nancy, Tangentyere Constructions will receive $6.4m for the demolition of seven homes and new build of nine.
Housing and Homelands Selena Uibo Minister said these projects would boost the NT economy.
“These works across the Alice Springs town camps will make a big difference to the quality of housing,” she said.
“Works are already underway in several town camps and will begin soon at Mount Nancy.
“This is a significant investment into the Alice Springs economy that will support local jobs and businesses.”
Tangentyere Constructions is a subsidiary of the Tangentyere Council Aboriginal Corporation which has managed a range of complex building projects and coordinated recognised training.
Recently the company has worked on Room to Breathe projects at Areyonga, Pmara Jutunta, and Nturiya.
