The whole world is set to get another glimpse of Territory’s beauty thanks to a new movie filmed in the Red Centre, with the first sneak peek trailer of the film now released.

The first trailer for Kangaroo – inspired by the life of Chris ‘Brolga’ Barnes, the man behind the Kangaroo Sanctuary in Alice Springs – was released on Tuesday.

Filmed on location in Alice Springs and the surrounds, Ryan Corr will play Barnes, while newcomer Lily Whiteley will play Charlie – a girl Barnes befriends.

Together, they rescue joeys in the Outback, an endeavour which transforms both of their lives.

The film is directed by Australian director Kate Woods, and also stars Ernie Dingo, Deborah Mailman and Wayne Blair.

The Territory government contributed $900,000 to the film’s production, which was spearheaded by StudioCanal.

It supported about 150 local jobs and engaged approximately 100 businesses, Screen Territory director Jennie Hughes said.

Kangaroo will hop into cinemas in 2025.
