A man who allegedly attacked a woman with a glass bottle and assaulted cops during his arrest will face court. Read the latest.

August 10, 9.30am: A man who allegedly assaulted two police officers during his arrest has also been charged in relation to an alleged domestic violence incident.

Superintendent Katie Hatzismalis said the 22-year-old man allegedly hit a woman in the face with a glass bottle near the Limonite St bridge in Tennant Creek about 2am Friday.

Superintendent Hatzismalis alleged the man resisted arrest and pushed both officers to the chest, and one fell to the ground.

She said the man was eventually taken to the Tennant Creek Watch House, where he was charged with aggravated assault, contravention of a DVO, assault police, and resist police.

Superintendent Hatzismalis said the man would face court on August 12.

She said there was no place for domestic and family violence in the community.

“NT police continue to urge those impacted to reach out,” she said.

“If you or someone you know are experiencing difficulties due to domestic violence, support services are available, including, but not limited to, 1800RESPECT or Lifeline 131 114.”

Superintendent Hatzismalis said the 23-year-old woman and both cops were taken to Tennant Creek Hospital for treatment.

Critical: ‘Restricted’ traffic flow after motorcyclist’s serious crash

August 10, 6am: A motorcyclist has been rushed to hospital after a serious crash in Alice Springs.

Southern Watch Commander Thomas Chalk said the crash, on the corner of Dalgety Rd and the Stuart Hwy, was reported to police just before 9pm on Friday.

Sergeant Chalk said the serious crash involved a ute and a motorcyclist.

He said the rider suffered critical injuries in the incident, and they were taken to Alice Springs Hospital.

Sergeant Chalk said police were still at the scene as of 6am Saturday, with traffic diversions in place.

He could not confirm if alcohol or drugs had been a factor in the crash, and called for anyone with dashcam footage of the incident to contact police on 131 444.

Sergeant Chalk said he expected the Stuart Hwy would have restricted traffic flow until early on Saturday afternoon.

In a separate incident, Sergeant Chalk said police recovered a stolen motor vehicle about 4.20am Saturday.

He said the white 4WD ute had been driving erratically throughout Alice Springs earlier in the morning.

Sergeant Chalk said police had not made any arrests in relation to the incident as of 6am Saturday.

He said the vehicle had been seized for forensic testing.

NT Police issue prisoner’s escape notice, more than 24 hours after he absconded

August 9: Northern Territory Police have issued a call for information more than 24 hours after a Red Centre prisoner absconded from custody.

Police in a statement issued at 4.58pm on Friday afternoon said officers were looking for 33-year-old Lawrence Daniels, who police escaped from community corrections in Alice Springs on Thursday, August 8 at about 9.45am.

In the statement, Police said they do not believe Mr Daniels was a risk to the public, but urged members of the public not to approach him.

“He is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, approximately 175cm tall and of medium build,” a police spokesperson said.

“He was last seen wearing black pants and black T-shirt with a white Nike logo on the front.”

Police said they believe Mr Lawrence may be in the Alice Springs region or surrounding areas.

“Alice Springs Police are actively looking for Mr Daniels and he is urged to return himself into custody as soon as possible,” police said.

Police are urging anyone with information on Mr Daniels whereabouts to get in contact on 131 444, quoting reference number NTP2400077633.

Search on for woman who allegedly stabbed trio with broken bottle

August 9: A woman who stabbed three people with a broken bottle in Alice Springs is still at large, according to Northern Territory police.

Police said the 21-year-old woman’s alleged stabbing frenzy happened at about 5.40am on Friday in the Alice Springs suburb of Sadadeen.

Police said the woman allegedly first targeted a 25-year-old man, leaving him with “serious injuries to his face”.

“The offender allegedly proceeded to stab a 22-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman, with both suffering injuries to their head and upper body respectively,” police in a statement said.

NT Police said all parties involved were known to each other and “all presented to Alice Springs Hospital and received medical treatment”.

While police said the bottle used has been found and seized, the 21-year-old woman remained outstanding.

Police said investigations were ongoing at the time of print, with officers urging anyone with information to get in contact on 131 444, quoting reference number NTP2400077315.

Cops allegedly assaulted when man resisted arrest

August 9: A man has been charged after he allegedly assaulted two cops in Tennant Creek.

Southern Watch Commander Thomas Chalk said police attended a “large disturbance” in the early hours of Friday morning.

Sergeant Chalk alleged police tried to arrest a man but he resisted, causing minor injuries to the cops.

He said the man was eventually taken into custody and charged with a range of offences including assaulting police.

Sergeant Chalk said police were “disappointed” by the alleged offender’s behaviour.

He said police officers should not risk “being assaulted when carrying out their duties”.

‘Large rocks’: Cop car allegedly smashed, forcing NT officers to flee

August 8, 7am: Police are searching for two possibly stolen vehicles in Alice Springs after the occupants of one allegedly damaged a cop car.

Southern Watch Commander Thomas Chalk told this masthead NT Police officers had been sitting in a marked police vehicle south of the Heavitree Gap just before 3am on Thursday.

Sergeant Chalk said a suspected stolen white Toyota HiLux allegedly pulled up next to the police car.

He alleged the ute’s occupants began throwing “large rocks” at the police vehicle, damaging both driver’s side doors and “shattering” the driver’s side window.

Sergeant Chalk said the officers inside the vehicle were not injured, and tried to evade the alleged offender’s ute when the driver allegedly tried to cause further damage to their vehicle.

He said the ute then followed the police vehicle for “some distance”.

Sergeant Chalk alleged the ute was later seen driving alongside a white LandCruiser ute that police suspected was also stolen.

He said neither vehicles had been apprehended as at 6am on Thursday.

Sergeant Chalk said the vehicles kept police “busy” throughout the night, but noted fewer domestic violence incidents were reported throughout the evening than usual.

Territory taxi driver breaks hip in road rage incident

August 6: Police are appealing for information after a taxi driver was rushed into emergency surgery after suffering a broken hip in a road rage incident.

An NT Police spokesman said officers received a report that the man had been assaulted at the Alice Springs airport by a man unknown to him at about 2.45pm on Monday.

He said the pair had arrived at the airport at about 1.15pm when an altercation occurred in the pick up/drop off zone, during which the taxi driver was pushed to the ground.

He then drove himself to hospital where it was confirmed he suffered a fractured hip and required emergency surgery.

The other man remains at large and is believed to be driving a silver Mitsubishi station wagon with South Australian number plates.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or who has dashcam footage from the area to make contact on 131 444 and quote reference P24210630.

Elderly man and cyclist allegedly robbed

August 6: Two men are on the run after they allegedly burgled an Alice Springs home and stole the backpack of another person.

Southern Watch Commander Thomas Chalk said the men allegedly forced their way through the front door of an East Side home just before midnight on Monday.

Sergeant Chalk said the pair allegedly “rummaged” through the home before threatening the elderly resident.

He alleged the duo stole a set of car keys and a handbag and fled the scene in a white mini-van that did not belong to the elderly man.

Sergeant Chalk said the same pair allegedly found a cyclist on Barrett Drive about 12.43am Thursday.

He said when the cyclist fell off their push bike, the men allegedly stole the cyclist’s backpack and fled the scene.

Sergeant Chalk said investigations were continuing and anyone with information or footage of the incidents should contact police on 131 444.

In a separate incident, Sergeant Chalk said police recovered a stolen motor vehicle just south of Alice Springs.

He said police deployed tyre deflation devices and located the vehicle a short distance from the spikes, but said no persons were located near the vehicle.

Stolen cars, officer injured, business ramraided in Alice Springs night of chaos

August 5: A Northern Territory police officer has been injured in Alice Springs when a stolen car allegedly rammed a police vehicle, while a 13-year-old boy with a replica firearm has been arrested trying to allegedly hold up a business in an unrelated incident.

Police say the officer was injured when a stolen vehicle allegedly rammed the back of a police car, with the officer suffering bruising to the back.

The vehicle was one of five stolen on the night of August 4.

Police allege the vehicle was then used in a ram-raid on a commercial premises in Connellan, where alcohol was stolen.

The injured officer was responding to three of the five stolen vehicles “driving dangerously” south of Alice Springs CBD, according to police.

“The injured officer was treated at Alice Springs Hospital and has been released to recover,” Commander James Gray-Spence said

He said one of the vehicles had been recovered and investigations were continuing.

“Police are urging anyone with information to make contact on 131 444 please quote reference P24210203.”

Earlier that evening, police said they arrested a youth in relation to an alleged attempted aggravated robbery in Larapinta.

Police allege the 13-year-old tried to rob a business on Larapinta Drive at about 7.20pm.

It is further alleged the youth entered with a firearm, threatened a woman and demanded cash, before fleeing the scene “when they were disturbed by another person”.

“This incident was swiftly contained and resolved thanks to the incredible response by Northern Territory police officers,” Mr Gray-Spence said.

The firearm was a replica, according to police, who said the youth allegedly kicked an officer during the arrest.

“The police officer was not injured and carried on with her shift, protecting and serving our community,” Mr Gray-Spence said.

“Violence in our community and assaults on our police is disgraceful conduct and is completely unacceptable.

“Police urge anyone who knows someone who illegally possess a firearm, replica or not, to make contact with police on 131 444.”
