The Australian Men’s Cricketers with an intellectual disability team is in Darwin to take on the NT Academy as part of part of a huge year for Territory cricket.

The NT training camp from May 3-10 at DXC Arena will mark an important step in the squad’s development.

The training camp, supported by NT Cricket pathway and performance staff, including Australia’s blind cricket assistant coach Trent Keep a mixture of training sessions and cultural activities.

It will also consist of three matches against the NT Cricket Academy and give the country’s best cricketers with an intellectual ability the chance to refine techniques and prepare for elite matches.

Australian Men’s Cricketers with an Intellectual Disability head coach Linda Bayfield said the NT training camp would be a brilliant opportunity for the team to develop.

“Our players can develop their skills, grow as a team, and immerse themselves in a unique cultural experience,” she said.

“The combination of high-performance coaching, competitive match play and local engagement will be invaluable for our squad as we continue to build towards elite competition.”

NT Cricket head of cricket Nick Winter said he was delighted to welcome the team to the Territory so soon after the announcement Darwin would host two international games in August.

“This training camp is a great opportunity to show our support for inclusive cricket,” he said.

“While also continuing to showcase the Northern Territory’s dry season as an incredible winter cricket opportunity for elite cricket.”

The three T20 matches will take place at DXC Arena on May 5 (10am), 7 (5pm) and 8 (5pm).

Off the cricket field, the squad will participate in local excursions and cultural activities, take part in a Larrakia Saltwater Ceremony, and explore and immerse themselves in Darwin’s unique culture.
