Alice Springs teen arrested after breaching bail and breaking electronic monitoring device

NT Police have arrested a 13-year-old boy after he breached bail by releasing himself from his ankle bracelet and going on the run in Alice Springs.

NT Police have caught a 13-year-old repeat offender after he allegedly breached bail and attempted to escape police by removing his electronic monitoring device.

The boy allegedly broke and released himself from the device earlier in the week prompting a police search operation to find him.

Police received information about his location on Thursday and tracked him to home in the Alice Springs’ suburb of Gillen.

A police drone confirmed he had fled through to the residence’s backyard, where police found him under a large tree.

He was arrested without further incident and take to the Alice Springs Watch House, where he will be handed additional charges relating to the breach of bail and removing the monitor.

Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Budge said the safety of the community remained top priority.

“Police want to emphasise that the safety of our community is our top priority,” he said.

“And we will use all available resources to prevent criminal activities.”

Teen arrested on suspicion of damaging Alice Springs Police Station

A 13-year-old youth is expected to be charged with multiple offences after they were arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage to Alice Springs Police Station overnight.

Senior Sergeant Thomas Chalk told the NT News the youth was arrested in the early hours of Saturday on suspicion of committing multiple offences.

They included serious breach of bail, assault police, criminal damage, and being armed with an offensive weapon.

The youth was remanded in police custody due to the time of night and was expected to be charged on Saturday.

In an unrelated incident in the early hours of Friday morning, a 28-year-old was charged with assault police at the Alice Springs suburb of Flynn.

“In order to affect the arrest, officers deployed their tasers,” Senior Sergeant Chalk said.

According to Mr Chalk, there were 37 domestic violence related call-outs in the 24 hours to Saturday morning.

One male was placed under arrest, with investigations into the matter ongoing.

There were, however, no reports of motor vehicle stealing in the 24 hours to Saturday morning in Alice Springs, Mr Chalk said.

Hospital worker robbed, credit cards used in shopping spree

January 12: Police searching for three teenagers who allegedly a Tennant Creek Hospital staffer’s wallet and used her credit cards during a shopping spree.

An NT Police spokesman said the woman had been walking through the hospital’s staff car park at 8am on Thursday, when a young girl “grabbed and pulled” her from behind.

The spokesman said the staffer’s handbag was then allegedly stolen, and the young girl fled the scene with two others.

He said the woman found her handbag soon after but noted her purse was missing.

The spokesman said her credit cards were the “illicitly utilised to purchase various items”.

He said an investigation was ongoing and police were urging the public to help identify the three young girls.

The spokesman said anyone with information could make contact on 131 444 and quote reference number NTP2400004146.

Wild night: Police car ‘side swiped’ as three vehicles stolen

January 11: Central Australian police have faced a wild night after three cars were stolen and driven through Tennant Creek and Alice Springs – with one stolen car side swiping a police vehicle.

Southern Watch Commander Thomas Chalk alleged two stolen cars were spotted driving erratically through Alice Springs in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Sergeant Chalk said one of the vehicles was apprehended at about 5am.

One person was taken into custody and police are expected to lay charges against him, however police investigations are ongoing.

Sergeant Chalk said the second stolen car remained outstanding for.

He asked that members of the community come forward with information about the missing car, which he said was a small white hatchback.

A third stolen car was spotted in a separate incident, driving erratically through Tennant Creek before midnight.

Sergeant Chalk said that vehicle had “side swiped” a parked police vehicle.

The vehicle later had its tyres spiked as it was driving through Paterson St.

A “number” of people then fled the scene.

As at 6am on Thursday, Sergeant Chalk said no arrests had yet been made in relation to the incident.

In addition to the stolen car incidents, police also responded to 38 domestic violence call-outs.

Tourists injured after horror highway rollover

January 10: Two tourists have been injured after their hire car rolled multiple times on a major highway.

Southern Watch Commander Mick Fields said the two German nationals were travelling north on the Stuart Hwy when their hired Toyota HiAce aquaplaned 15km from Barrow Creek at 3.40pm Tuesday.

Sergeant Fields said the vehicle rolled multiple times but the tourists – a male and female – were able to pull themselves from the wreckage.

He said a passer-by stopped to offer medical treatment to the pair.

“The male occupant sustained minor cuts and abrasions. The female occupant suffered a compound fracture of her left arm,” Sergeant Fields said.

“She was taken to the Ti Tree Clinic before being airlifted by Royal Flying Doctors to the Alice Springs Base Hospital.”

Sergeant Fields said the tourists were expected to make a full recovery, and the vehicle suffered “major damage”.

Caught on camera: Kids busted after brazen car theft

January 9: Police are searching for a group of kids after they stole a car from an Alice Springs home.

NT Police Southern Watch Commander Mick Fields said the black Mazda 3 was spotted driving erratically around the Alice Springs CBD by CCTV operators at about 1am on Tuesday.

Sergeant Fields said police attended the registered owner’s address, where they found the home had been broken into.

He said the person’s car had been stolen while the occupant was asleep.

No other property or belongings had been stolen from the residence, he said.

Sergeant Fields said the car was later found on Hablett Cr, Gillen, at 3am.

He said the alleged thieves were not with the car, which was then seized for forensic analysis.

Sergeant Fields said the group had not been identified as of 6am Tuesday, but footage identified “what appear to be multiple young people” in the vehicle during its joy ride.

He said Central Australian police also responded to 14 domestic violence call-outs over the 24-hour period.
