An Alice Springs school employee’s car has been found with “moderate” damage after it was taken for a joy ride.
Southern Watch Commander Mick Fields said a 12-year-old boy had been arrested after the Yirara College staff quarters were broken into about 2.20am Monday.
Sergeant Fields said a set of keys were stolen from the quarters and used to drive a staff member’s personal vehicle through the front gates.
He said police used a staff member’s phone – which had been left inside the vehicle – to track the vehicle until it came to a stop in Ilparpa about 4.20am.
Sergeant Fields said the boy was arrested near the vehicle, but an unknown number of alleged offenders fled the area.
He said the 12-year-old was released into the care of Territory Families and police continued to search for the remaining alleged offenders.
Police seek missing Nissan after Gillen home invasion
Two youths have been arrested in relation to an aggravated burglary in Alice Springs early Sunday morning.
It followed a bizarre series of events that led to the recovery of a vehicle later in the night.
Just after 2.30am CCTV operators identified a white Nissan X-Trail driving around the Alice Springs CBD in a dangerous manner.
Police said they then launched a co-ordinated response to stop the vehicle while Strike Force Viper members attended the registered owners address on Poeppel Gardens, Gillen.
When police arrived, Viper members identified a window that appeared to have been interfered with and observed a suspicious person within the residence.
When police entered, two teenagers aged 13 and 14 were located hiding. The homeowner confirmed to police a Nissan X-Trail and a silver Haval had been stolen from the property.
The two youths were arrested.
The silver Haval was found abandoned nearby by police shortly after and seized for forensic analysis.
The two teenagers will remain in custody while Strike Force Viper investigators probe the crime.
Police are seeking information on the location of the white Nissan X-Trail, which has NT registration CF43BP.

Girl hospitalised after alleged stolen car crash
A young girl has been taken to hospital after allegedly running from a crashed stolen car at Alice Springs.
NT Police allege the 13-year-old girl was among a group of five people spotted running from a stolen red Mitsubishi Mirage at 11.44pm, Friday.
It is alleged the group broke into a home at Taylor Street, Araluen before driving off in the Mitsubishi around 10pm.
Police allege after almost two hours on the run the car crashed into a tree on Jarvis St, Braitling.
Only a 13-year-old girl was arrested, and she was soon taken to Alice Springs Hospital for medical assessment.
Investigators seized the vehicle, which is expected to undergo forensic analysis on Saturday.
Police said they would charge the injured girl, with investigations ongoing to find the others allegedly involved.
Police have not disclosed the nature of her injuries, or what condition she was in following her arrest.
Kids arrested after alleged Alice Springs joy ride
Three kids have been arrested after they allegedly broke into an Alice Springs home and stole a set of car keys.
An NT Police spokesman said the Lyndavale Dr resident’s blue Mazda was spotted speeding through the Alice Springs CBD about 1am Thursday.
The spokesman said the drone and canine units as well as general duties members worked together to stop the car.
He said one of the car’s occupants allegedly fled the scene but police arrested the 16-year-old male driver as well as two other passengers aged 10 and 13.
The spokesman said the 10-year-old was taken home to a responsible adult, while the remaining alleged offenders remained in custody.
He said the duo had been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
