Aussie filmed assisting police in wild chase for wanted man

A wild police chase has been caught on camera, capturing the moment an Aussie bystander became hero.

An Aussie has become a hero after he assisted police with capturing a wanted man, sparking mass debate online.

In a video posted to social media, a bystander can be seen chasing down a beachgoer who allegedly tried to flee from police.

The man was pulled over on a busy road in Trigg, in Perth’s north on Saturday. He tried to flee the scene by dashing through traffic.

Police allege the 29-year-old man was driving without a licence. He has since been charged.

The footage of the wild foot chase was initially posted on Instagram with the caption reading: “Bit of context bloke gets pulled over, cops tell him to get out of car. Have some sort of verbal altercation and he gets pepper sprayed.”

The video begins relatively peacefully, with the police walking after the man, before he decides to speed up his pace, pushing away the officer and trying to run in the opposite direction.

As he gains some distance from police officers, he is met with a bystander in a red T-shirt who blocks his way and and then chases after him.

The chase continues as more police join the scene, before an officer drives his motorbike into the wanted man, abruptly ending the chase.

The footage has racked up thousands of views and has sparked a debate among viewers.

“Red shirt has been preparing his whole life for the moment to be a hero,” one person wrote.

“Well done police and bystander, great job,” chimed in another.

A third wrote: “So satisfying when he got knocked by the bike. Play stupid games get stupid prizes.”

Others instead believe the bystander should not have joined in on the chase.

“What happened to mind ya bees wax?” a person asked.

“There’s always a Barry who’s trying to save the day. Un-Australian of the year goes to him,” agreed another.

While a third commentator added: “We get told all the time not to be vigilantes and let the police do their jobs …”

Police have confirmed the 29-year-old man has been charged with obstructing officers and driving without authority.
