NSW Police believe they have arrested and charged the gunman who shot and killed Sydney crime boss Alen Moradian.
The notorious underworld kingpin and high-ranking member of the Comanchero bikie gang was killed while sitting in a parked car at Bondi Junction about 8.30am on June 27.
On Wednesday morning, police announced three men had been charged over their alleged involvement in the killing, including the 24-year-old man who allegedly pulled the trigger, killing Moradian.
About 3.50am on Wednesday, Task Force Magnus detectives arrested the 24-year-old at a Fairfield Heights address, and he was later charged with five offences, including murder, drug and firearm related offences and participating in a criminal group.
He was refused bail and will appear before Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday.
A 27-year-old man and a 28-year-old man were also arrested at a Macquarie Park address about 8.40pm on Tuesday over Moradian’s alleged murder.
Authorities also seized 1.5kg of cocaine, 844g of methylamphetamine, three dedicated encrypted criminal communication devices and a pistol with 23 rounds of ammunition.
The 27-year-old was charged with eight firearm and drug-related offences and participating in a criminal group, while the 28-year-old man was charged with drug-related offences and participating in a criminal group.
Wednesday’s arrest was the sixth made in relation to Moradian’s alleged murder.
Detective Acting Superintendent Virginia Gorman said police believed the individuals allegedly involved were likely contracted to undertake the alleged murder.
“It’s quite typical with organised crime murders, the people who actually physically go out and do that murder are people who don’t have a personal relationship or a reason for doing the murder, but they’ve obviously been contracted in some form to undertake that task,” she said.
Superintendent Gorman said it was “fortunate” the alleged gunman had remained in the country and police would allege there was only one person who pulled the trigger that day.
She also thanked members of the public for providing information to police and said it assisted detectives with their investigations.
“We do have some upcoming arrests. I’d imagine there will be further arrests in this matter, we’re not committed to just these ones,” she said.
