THE world’s most exclusive cruise ship will call Darwin home for two days from February 3.

The cruise ship is a floating apartment block with the people on board owning the ship and living in specially designed apartments, choosing where in the world they will cruise to next.

Aptly named The World, it is a ship like no other.

The world’s largest private residential ship is home to only 165 “homes”.

As a further example of its exclusivity, it has 500 crew and just 200 passengers.

The roaming international community of residents and guests spend extensive time exploring the most exotic and well-travelled destinations, and return on-board to a lifestyle said to be like “nowhere else on earth”.

”Floating resort’ German cruise ship’s 3-day Darwin call

There are many things that make this cruise ship unique.

Each year, the itinerary is determined by the ship’s residents and the captain.

A circumnavigation of Australia, starting in Darwin, kickstarts The World’s February-March cruising.

The World’s residences, each with a private veranda, allow its residents to live just as land-bound residents do, but in a different country or location every few days.

People can own one and two-bedroom studio residences with ensuite bathrooms and a separate lounge/kitchenette area and living space.

Designed in a variety of configurations, The World’s two-bedroom residences can come with full-size kitchens, spacious living and dining areas, ensuite bathrooms and large veranda spaces.

The World’s three-bedroom residences have a foyer.

They are equipped with gourmet kitchens, with premium appliances, three full bathrooms, and generous living and veranda space.

Residents of The World experience a journey of their own choosing across every ocean and every continent on earth, visiting 120 ports each year.

Itineraries are crafted to maximise resident experiences at every landing, often spending three days in some cultural capitals.

Polar and tropical expeditions are planned each year.

After their Australian expedition The World has Antarctica, South Asia, the Middle East, the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, the UK, North America and South America on its destination list.
