South Australia will go into lockdown for six days from midnight tonight, as the suddenly-troubled state attempts to stop the rapid community spread of COVID-19

South Australia’s Premier Steven Marshall announced the lockdown at a midday press conference today as the COVID-19 crisis continues.

All schools will be closed except for children of essential workers and vulnerable children.

Takeaway food, universities, the construction industry, pubs, cafes and food courts will close and sport and exercise will be banned outside the house.

Masks will be required in all areas outside the home and regional travel is not approved.

The outbreak in Adelaide’s northern suburbs has so far infected at least 22 people, but another seven people are still waiting for their test results.

There were more than 4000 South Australians in isolation yesterday however chief public health officer Professor Nicola Spurrier said there was “certainly more than that” today.

It comes after the NT today rolled back its hot spot declaration zone in South Australia to only include Adelaide and its surrounding suburbs.
