'That is brilliant': The best supermarket hack when you forget a bag

The shopper's trick is not only clever, it saves you money on purchasing another bag!

We've all been there, a shopping trolley full of groceries, only to get to the checkout and realise that the pile of reusable bags is in the car! 

Not anymore. 

One man shared his genius hack using an everyday essential to avoid the disaster of carrying your entire supermarket haul—or worse, paying for more reusable bags you'll never remember to bring shopping. 

The man known as Vinnie Brand posted, "2 years later...still the best life hack."

He started by having the checkout assistant ring up a box of garbage bags. But that wasn't the end of his shopping trip; it was just the beginning. 

The stand-up comedian then requested the helper at the register to use said garbage bags for the items moving down the conveyor belt.

"Oh, that is brilliant"

He starts to grab the attention of fellow shoppers and supermarket workers. The semi-cost-saving hack blows away one young shopper behind him, and she says, "Oh, that is brilliant." 

Paying it forward, he hands her a bag and says, "Hey, first one's on me." 

Stunned by what was unfolding, the cashier asked, "They don't break on you?" referring to the garbage bags he was stuffing like Santa sacks. 

"Nah, I always separate the cold stuff from the hot stuff," he replies.

"Finally, a good life hack"

As he places his cleverly bagged items into his car, the young shopper walks passed, thanking him for changing her life, saying, "You're a goddamn lifesaver."

This viral video was a skit, as many observant viewers noticed that the girl in the supermarket was wearing a microphone. However, this discovery didn't deter supermarket shoppers from attempting this trick in the future.

"I will totally do that next time I go grocery shopping," a new convert wrote. 

"Finally, a good life hack," declared another. 

"Omg genius, I loved how he gave the chick behind him a bag too," a third wrote. 

Bonus: it's reusable! 

This shopper shared a 'free' hack: "I always grab a handful of those free fruit vegetable bags on the roll and use those lol."

Another pointed out they weren't single-use plastic bags, saying: "Then when he gets home, he reuses them for trash bags. Brilliant!!"

However, this user admitted why they wouldn't try it, "You don't want to put food in garbage bags. They're treated chemically." 

While bringing our reusable bags to the supermarket is the best option, as Vinnie has highlighted, sometimes we have to improvise!
