'Shapewear you can eat in': We tried Boody's new Shaper range

"Anything that can suck in my lower mummy tummy for under $50 is a winner in my eyes!" said one mum.

Kmart's new $30 'shapewear' jeans are going viral on TikTok

We’ve all heard the saying ‘fashion is pain’, and I’m almost certain whoever coined that phrase was thinking about women’s fashion, and shapewear, in particular.

From bone-crushing corsets of the past, to modern-day spandex, it’s little wonder why shapewear has a bad rep.

But not anymore. Enter: Boody’s new Shaper Range - shapewear that’s actually comfortable.

Yes, I promise! (I tried it!)

Boody's new Shaper range

“Shapewear has a history of discomfort - being associated with the restriction of movement and acceptance of aches. Consumers, (women in particular), have accepted the discomfort in exchange for the confidence that a little extra support can provide. But what if you could achieve that same feeling without sacrificing comfort? That's where we come in,” said Rebecca Innes, Product Lead at Boody.

And judging by their 65,000+  five-star reviews, it seems they’re doing something right.

The Aussie brand’s latest release, the Shaper Range, is all about making shapewear that moves with you, so you can eat, sit, bend, and move like a regular person, without compromising on that smooth, supported feeling.

The range is made from their signature bamboo viscose, which is breathable, moisture-wicking, and hypoallergenic, so you can wear it all day (or night) long without wanting to tear it off.

The collection includes a High Waist G-String, Full Cut Brief and Long-Length Undershort, available in black and shell.

So, does Boody's Shaper Range actually live up to the hype? We decided to put it to the test.

Here’s what a few of us on the Kidspot team thought after giving these pieces a go.

El’s review: Shaper High Waist G-String, small, nude

What did you like about them? I loved how comfortable and stretchy they are, but when you put them on, they really suck you in. They don’t constrict you, and I even forgot I was wearing them at some points.

Anything you didn’t you like about them? I can’t find any faults! Maybe size down though if you want extra compression.

How true to size were they? True to size. I’m a size 8 and I got a small and they fit perfectly!

Did you notice a big difference while wearing them? Look, I didn’t go down a dress size, but I definitely noticed I felt more confident while wearing a figure-hugging dress. Everyone has a little stomach, it’s normal! But I still appreciated the smoothing effect of wearing shapewear as it made my clothes look more flattering and hug in all the right places.

For $39.95, do you think they're good value for money? Absolutely, for that confidence, $39.95 is a small price to pay. They also feel like they’re incredible quality, so I’m sure they’ll last me for a long time.

Leah’s review: Full Cut Brief, large, nude

What did you like about them? They were pretty comfy to wear.

Anything you didn’t like about them? They were a bit too high-waisted for me, but I do have a short torso, so that might just be a me problem. I would've liked them to suck me in a bit more too.

How true to size were they? True to size but I think I could've gone a size down to see if it sucked in more or was a little lower on the waist.

Did you notice a big difference while wearing them? Not a huge amount, but when I was wearing my jeans and noticed the waistline, there was a fair gap between the jeans and my tummy, so it was a subtle change. It also was nice and smoothing when I wore a tighter skirt or dress.

For $49.95, do you think they're good value for money? Considering how much Skims and other big-name brands cost, I think it's a good price point. Anything that can suck in my lower mummy tummy for under $50 is a winner in my eyes

Em's review: Shaper High Waist G-String, medium, black

What did you like about them? Having long been a fan of the Boody underwear range (the Brazilian bikini will change your life), I was super excited to try the Boody shapewear range. Like a lot of mums, I need some support when wearing clingy or slinky clothes but don't want to feel like I can't do things in them. It came good on its promise and I loved the stretchy, soft material.

Anything you didn’t you like about them? My constructive criticism is that the G-string did ride up a bit (I wonder if I should have sized down or if I should invest in another cut - the whole garment seemed to ride up), but I was very happy with the shape it gave me overall.

How true to size were they? I think I should have sized down because they were a little too high waisted.

Did you notice a big difference while wearing them? In terms of flattening my mum tum and giving me a nice side-on silhouette, the Boody shapewear definitely did its job.

For $39.95, do you think they're good value for money? Yes! I will also stress that you can't go past the Boody bamboo material - it is in a class of its own! And for that reason probably justifies the $40 price tag. I'd be interested to try the shapewear briefs as I think they'd be pretty great.
