Bizarre new tactic men are using to trick women into paying on first date

"He got this huge grin on his face and said, ‘Congratulations, you passed the test!'"

Who pays on the first date? It's a question that often gets people riled up...

From a woman's point of view, the answer to this question is often divided, because we're usually split into two categories:

a) Get your money out, fellas. It's called chivalry.

b) I'm with Miley and can buy my own flowers, thanks!

Sneaky tactic men are using on the first date

If you're someone who prefers the man to pay the bill on a first date, it has been considered a red flag in a relationship. And as it turns out, some men are 'trapping' women into revealing their true selves by using a tactic that has been exposed on social media.

Some guys are coming up with sneaky ways to figure out if their dates are just after their money, and women are finding out the hard way.

Picture this: A 29-year-old woman goes on what she thinks is a nice date, set up by a mutual friend. Everything's going well until the $100 bill arrives. That's when her date decides to pull a fast one. He hands her the bill and asks her to pay for the whole thing!

The woman shared her experience on Reddit, where she asked others if they realised this was a "thing" men are doing now to trick them.

"AITAH for walking out on a date after he 'tested' me by making me pay the bill?" she asked in a post that has since been deleted.

Caught off guard, the woman (who was planning on splitting the bill anyway), settled the balance. Then came the real shocker. Her date breaks into a huge grin and says, "Congratulations, you passed the test! You're not a gold digger!"

Not a gold digger... sorry what now?

As it turns out, the male on the date had some baggage from a past relationship where his ex expected him to pay for everything, hence his need for using this trick before he explores the relationship any further.

Unfortunately for him, the plan backfired with the woman insisting she wasn't having any of this game playing and didn't need to "win" anything.

"I told him that I’m not his ex and he has no right to treat me like I’m guilty until proven innocent. I also said he’s not some prize that I need to pass tests for," she shared online.

Needless to say, the comments came firing through with a lot of shade thrown the man's way for following on with this relationship 'trend'.

Most people agreed these "tests" were pretty messed up and showed more about the guys' character flaws than anything else.

“While it’s certainly possible that his ex was only into him for the money, he’s not actually offering much else. At least, not a pleasant character,” someone commented.

Meanwhile, others encouraged the woman to see this as more of a test for her of HIM rather than the way he intended.

"It absolutely WAS a test- to see how far he could disrespect you. His behaviour could only get worse from there,” another insisted.
