CLOUDS of burning rubber and the roar of the engines will provide the perfect wedding backdrop for rev head couple Bonnie and Joel Sykes when they get married at the upcoming Red Centre NATS.
The Canberra couple have been together for 12 years and entered to win a competition by showing off their own souped up car.
Ms Sykes thought they’d never get hitched so went ahead and changed her surname.
“We’ve been together for 12 years and engaged for six years – since then we’ve had two kids, Noah, 5 and Chloe, nine months,” she said.
“I didn’t think we’d ever actually get married so I went and legally changed my surname to Sykes.
“We were so excited when we found out we won the wedding competition – we are completely over the moon.”
The Red Centre NATS wedding and reception will take place at Blatherskite Park on September 4 and 5.

The bride and groom will also have the chance to lead the popular Red Centre NATS street parade on Saturday, September 4, with thousands of onlookers expected to cheer on the newlyweds through the streets of Alice Springs.
NT Major Events Company chief executive Tim Watsford said the stunning backdrop of the West MacDonnell Ranges would provide a stunning backdrop for the wedding.
“This unique event does so much for our economy by attracting thousands of entrants and
spectators to Alice Springs, generating numerous benefits for the region and its people,” he said.
“We look forward to growing Red Centre NATS in size and popularity for years to come.”
The Red Centre NATS will run in Alice Springs from September 3-5.
