A MONSTER 4.5m croc has been captured at a popular swimming and camping area in the Top End, sparking serious warnings from rangers to remain croc wise this dry season.
Parks and Wildlife ranger Chris Heydon said the Katherine wildlife operations team removed a 4.52m male saltwater crocodile, who was missing the end of his tail, at Flat Rock on the Fergusson River on Tuesday.
“The trap was only in this location for 5 days,” he said.
“This is a serious reminder to always Be Crocwise.
“We are well into the dry season and people are making the most of the beautiful weather, however you must always assume a large and potentially dangerous crocodile could be living in any body of water.
“We live and play in croc country and there is no room for complacency.
“Just because you haven’t see a crocodile in an area before does not mean one hasn’t moved in.
“Unless a location is signed as safe to swim, stay out of the water.
“If you are camping near the water, make sure you are a minimum of 50m away from the edge.”
