“Very, very disappointed”
An Aussie woman on TikTok as @narissacreativestudio has taken to the app after a ‘disappointing’ experience at the store.
“For someone who is a Kmart supporter, I’ve just walked out of Kmart very, very disappointed,” she began in the video.
“I purchased this, it hasn’t even been opened, the stickers are still on, and I’m wanting to do a straight swap, just for a white one.
“I’ve gone up to the service counter, I’ve let them know I bought this online, I’ve given them the white one, and just wanna do a straight swap. They’ve told me because this is out of their 60 day policy, and technically because it’s an online purchase, it’s classified as a refund and it’s not possible.”
Narissa ended the video asserting her position that the store should have taken her exchange, regardless of their policy.
“Let me just say, Kmart Australia, I’m extremely disappointed, because I’ve worked retail for a long time, and to deny a customer of an exchange is just so wrong,” she said.

“I would just swap it”
Some fellow Kmart lovers commented on the post agreeing with Narissa, saying that at the end of the day, sometimes it’s easier to just go with the customer.
“If they still sell it and it’s brand new untouched idk why there’s even a problem exchanging after 1000 days. No one loses here but they gain a happy customer,” one commenter said.
“Unpopular opinion as a person that worked in retail for 10 years, but if it’s unopened I would just swap it. It literally takes less energy to swap than argue policy idk,” another agreed.
“former retail manager - every company I've worked for have always done straight swaps for different size or colour outside refund date. same amount of stock anyway and no loss $ 💁🏼♀️” said a third.
“Kmart has a policy they’re upholding!”
However, the majority of commenters sided with the retail giant, noting that they have a strict policy to uphold, which can’t necessarily be bent or broken given a certain person’s circumstances.
“They can’t do anything if it is past the given timeline - if you worked retail you would understand this,” one commenter said.
“As a current retail worker, this pmo. If they tell you they can’t do it under their policy they can’t do it,” said another.
“Kmart are only upholding their policies that are clearly stated on their website. Regardless of other retailers and retail workers experiences/opinions, Kmart has a policy they’re upholding,” a third agreed.
Many even noted how flexible Kmart’s policy is already, providing a 60 day window.
“I’’m sorry but I work retail too 60 days is more than fair when most retail stores only have 21-30 days. You had time girl,” one commenter said.
“Nah 60 days, that’s more than enough time. This is completely fair,” a second agreed.
“Not really it’s their policy … 😂 why are you waiting 60 days to change your mind ??” said a third.
“How long do you expect the policy to be lol 60 days is plenty of time. As frustrating as it is the policy is in place for a reason,” another agreed.
One former Kmart employee even said putting the exchange through may have been impossible, whether the worker wanted to help out or not.
“I worked at Kmart and the registers physically won’t let you put through the swap after the 60 days unless you used OnePass when ordering,” they said in the comments.
