'WTF?' Aussie's shock after receiving little-known delivery fee

"I just found out something I ordered is being delivered by them. I've already emailed the company to say I would never have bought off them if I'd known."

Everyone has a horror story when it comes to getting online orders delivered.

Whether it’s an Aus Post driver who left you the dreaded ‘We missed you!’ note - even though you were waiting at home all day for the package - or a food delivery that came torn to bits and with three items missing, it’s all just as frustrating.

But, for one Aussie, their horror story has also come with a surprise fee - and they’re warning others not to end up in the same boat.

“WFT?”

A Melbourne Reddit user has taken to the platform after a frustrating experience with courier service Aramex.

The user said they ordered nappies from Amazon, thinking they’d use their own delivery service. But, what came was a rude shock.

“So I ordered 2 boxes of nappies from Amazon. The seller is Amazon commercial services on the invoice,” the poster said.

“They seem to have used Aramex for the delivery instead of their own drivers.”

The poster said that the driver wasn’t able to deliver their package, which would have been fine if it didn’t end up being an extra cost to them.

“They couldn’t deliver yesterday as I was at work and my house is gated (although this hasn’t stopped Amazon drivers from delivering stuff in the past),” the poster said.

“Now Aramex is asking I pay $5.50 for them to redeliver it. Wtf?”

“Will never order from anyone who uses them again”

Commenters on the post shared their own similar stories of being asked to pay a redelivery fee by Aramex.

“They did the exact same thing to me with a bed frame except my redelivery fee was higher. I paid it and thanked my luck they actually delivered it. Will never order from anyone who uses them again,” one person shared.

“My first delivery from Aramex during COVID was from the local Kmart 4km away. Aramex claimed nobody was home which we were because, you know, COVID. They wanted an extra fee to try redelivery or I could pick it up myself from their depot 40km away. After much BS they put it on their next run a few days later,” said another.

“I've run into the same issue. Ended up picking it up from their warehouse in port Melbourne. Took forever, not organised at all,” said a third.

Others said they’d had different issues with Aramex, agreeing that if they’d had the choice, they wouldn’t be using them at all.

“They're terrible. I just found out something I ordered is being delivered by them. I've already emailed the company to say I would never have bought off them if I'd known and that when the item isn't delivered I'll just wait until it's returned to the seller and contact them for a refund,” said one commenter.

“Aramex is the worst, no (real) tracking, no updates website is often down, slow. Must be cheap?” another agreed.

It’s a thing!

Speaking to Kidspot, Mark Little, Aramex Oceania Regional Director, confirmed that a redelivery fee is the norm, should a recipient not be able to pick their missed package up from one of their outlets.

“As the recipient has stated in the Reddit post, they have a gated home, so the courier did not deliver the parcel as he couldn’t gain access to leave the parcel in a safe place,” he told Kidspot.

“Aramex senders can choose from various types of delivery service. Some of the delivery options provide for free redelivery.

“In this case, the sender had chosen an ATL (Authority to Leave) service. With this service, if the parcel cannot be delivered, and there’s not a safe place to leave it, it is taken to a local Hubbed outlet, and the recipient is advised they can collect it at a time that suits them. There’s no fee for this service.

“If the customer doesn’t want to pick up the parcel from a Hubbed outlet, they can book a redelivery for a fee, as this is essentially a second delivery.

“We have recently introduced a Receiving Mode service providing a free account for people to easily track and manage their incoming deliveries in one centralised location.”
