A WEAK Low in the Top End has the potential to form into a cyclone in the Gulf of Carpentaria late in the weekend or early next week says the Bureau of Meteorology.
The BoM tropical cyclone outlook has the likelihood of a cyclone forming on Sunday at low, and moderate, which is a 20-50 per cent chance on Monday.

“The tropical low is expected to move south-eastwards across the southern Gulf of Carpentaria during the weekend, then become slow moving near the southeastern Gulf of Carpentaria early next week,” the cyclone outlook reads.
“The low could then move westwards and towards the Northern Territory, or continue moving south-eastwards towards Queensland.
“The chance of a tropical cyclone forming in the Gulf of Carpentaria increases next week.”
BoM NT meteorologist Billy Lynch urged people living in the Gulf to be aware of the developing situation and prepare themselves in the event the low intensified into a cyclone.
“I urge everyone in the Gulf area to keep up to date with the latest info,” Mr Lynch said.
“There no risk to Darwin from any tropical cyclone that may form in the Gulf next week. The risk is not for Darwin.”
He said Darwin could expect showers this weekend during the day and for the mercury to rise.
“It will be muggy and a little sunnier and temperatures could get as hot as 34C on Sunday.
The rural area can expect a top of 35C and overnight temperatures will be around 26 or 27C.

“It’s very hot but I like this kind of weather, but it is pretty oppressive,” he said.
“It’s even hotter than when I was here a month ago.”
