MANGO-MANIA is about to take over Darwin as the city prepares to host a festival celebrating the delicious fruit.

The Darwin Waterfront will turn a hue of orange and celebrate all things mango at the Mango Madness Festival being held during the peak of the season this October 25.

The Territory remains Australia’s number one mango producer, accounting for about 52 per cent of the nation’s crop last year.

NT Mango Industry Association vice president Jessie Jenkins said the festival was great opportunity to cement the Territory’s reputation as Australia’s ‘mango king’.

“The festival is being held during our peak season in October, so we’ll have plenty of mangoes to use,” Ms Jenkins said.

“On the festival day plenty of fun on to keep the whole family occupied.

“There will be mango eating contests, entertainment, food and drinks stalls with mango inspired products for tasting, cooking displays and workshops and education booths.

“We’ll have the smoothie making bikes out so people can make their own mango drinks and people can also quench their thirst with a mango beer.
