THE board of the largest produce market in the southern hemisphere is in the Territory to meet mango growers and reinforce how in-demand the product is.
Sydney Markets Limited is holding its September board meeting in Darwin on Friday.
As part of the educational tour they will visit Jenko’s Mangoes (Noonamah) and Cheeky Farms (Lambells Lagoon). Chairman John Pearson said the NT mango brand was strong with consumers and they wanted to get that message out here.

“The Territory has been an established product for many years,” Mr Pearson said.
“Mangoes come down via Adelaide and are trucked into Sydney. We sell around 50 per cent of the total domestic market.”
The Sydney market sits on 43 hectares. It turns over $3 billion annually and handles 500 semi-trailers seven nights a week.
