THE bare and unsightly median strip in front of Stuart Park’s famed Laksa House is now flourishing with greenery.
The restaurant’s owner Amye Un believes the work, was a result of her social media video campaign to beautify the median strip.
Ms Un posted a video on social media video in early September pointing out the lack of work since Cyclone Marcus ripped up trees.
Coincidentally, the work appeared to have been carried out at the same time a working bee Ms Un planned was shut down by the Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics because of concerns about public safety.
The department requested both Ms Un and member for Fong Lim Jeff Collins not interfere with the planned works for the area.
Over the weekend, the stretch of Stuart Hwy in front of Ms Un’s Stuart Park shop was cleared of rubbish, new plants and trees were planted and mulch was laid.
“Excuse me but this is number one National Highway … The gate for the NT,” Ms Un said.
The original working bee was the result of a call-out on Laksa House’s Facebook page for members of the community to help plant new vegetation on the strip.

In Ms Un’s video, she jokingly threatens local politicians with a wooden spoon and pleads with them to take action.
The video has at least 240,000 views on her Facebook page and has strengthened Ms Un’s local celebrity status.
“I’ve been getting calls from England, from America,” she said.
Amye Un said she was thankful the community support, and for the clean-up which she attributed to Eva Lawler and the Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics.
The Department has been contacted for comment.
