I don’t care how 'handy' they are - ditch that annoying beach trolley!
Do you really need to take these buky things everywhere you go? Or even worse, use it as a pram?

Yes, I agree that heading is rather aggressive but Aussies, I'm officially over your bulky beach trolleys.
Correction, I am sick of you taking your bulky beach trolley EVERYWHERE you bloody go!
They've been hailed as the 'must-have' item for summer - especially if you have kids - because of the convenience of not having to carry everything to the beach. I get it. For that purpose, I agree that they're brilliant.
But these four-wheelers are starting to take over our beaches in the way that those large CoolCabanas have. And yes, I've ranted about them too.

The 'must-have' item that's taking over our beaches
I went to a popular Sydney beach on the weekend. Being 30 degrees, a Sunday AND school holidays, I knew it was going to be busy.
What I wasn't expecting was having to fight beach accessories to find a spot on the sand! Between the cabanas and trolleys, there was barely any space to sit within comfortable distance of the next person.
I took a few glances in the trolleys parked on prime shoreline real estate and noticed that there were the common items you'd expect to find in there from people with little ones:
- Towels
- Snacks
- Sunscreen
- Bucket and spade
All items that I agree are a pain in the a** to carry down to the sand. But I still did question whatever happened to the rule: "If you want to take it, you carry it!" That was the go back when I was a kid.
While dodging the trolleys on the sand is annoying, it's not where my biggest frustration lies with these things.

Do you really need to take it everywhere?
Something you should know about me is that I'm sick for a trolley. I've ranted about you not putting them away properly in car parks, leaving them on suburban streets, and I froth over my very own foldable trolley every time I take it to the shops. You can hear all about it on our podcast Mum Club too.

It appears as though I've developed an unexpected passion for trolleys, but what I really do hate is when you take them beyond the beach.
These things are literally everywhere we go now!
Want to pop into the local organic market? You can guarantee there will be several people shopping with one beside them - sitting right in front of the apples you want to purchase but now can't get to until they move along.
A local fair or the Easter Show in your state going on? Yep, those bulky wagons are coming along to hold all the kids showbags too.
I've always found these space hoggers annoying but I didn't realise how much I detested them until I visited the theme parks in Queensland recently.
THEY WERE THERE TOO!
I always thought packing light was the go when you visited these places to make it easier to jump on and off rides. A simple backpack will do to carry water, snacks, lunch etc no? Apparently not.
So there I was, lining up to go on rides, once again playing the dodge game with these giant accessories. And if I was really unlucky, got my heels slammed by them.
Sigh.

They're not for kids!
Now, to end this rant (which you may or may not agree with), I want to highlight possibly the most annoying way people are using these trolleys.
Parents put their kids in them because "they're too tired to walk".
I've seen more of these trolleys wheeling kids around than a pram or stroller these summer holidays!
Come on, guys. Even the Kmart website warns against this dangerous way of using them with the disclaimer on their website reading: "This trolley is not suitable to carry children or pets."
Use them for the beach on a hot day to lug your stuff if you must, but I say let's go back to the basics of carrying our own stuff or condensing what we might deem is "needed" for the day. Especially when it comes to those busy, congested spots where it's already stressful having to navigate our way around a crowd of people.
Enough.
