Men are seriously lagging behind women when it comes to washing their underwear, according to a new study.
One in five men have admitted wearing the same dirty undies for a week, while in comparison, women change their knickers daily.
The “appalling” laundry habits of men were exposed by UK retailer Currys in a survey of 2000 people, laying bare the extent to which men put off doing their washing.
Understandably, many have been left horrified by the findings, including the hosts of British television show This Morning.
Hosts Rylan Clark and Emma Willis were disgusted after it was revealed 20 per cent of blokes wear the same undies all week.
“One whole week?” Willis can be seen gasping in a clip shared to TikTok.
Clark then interjects, revealing a further 5 per cent of men admitted to wearing the same pair of boxers or briefs for a staggering two weeks.
“That is appalling,” Willis responds.
Viewers were equally as sickened, with many flooding the comments section with their opinions on the “filthy” habit.
“Who would admit that?” one exasperated woman wrote.
“My ex didn’t do laundry for 6 months. We were stuck in the same house after we split so I saw. He never cleaned his sheets ever,” another claimed.
As one simply exclaimed: “EXCUSE ME?”
“This is why people smell,” someone else chipped in.
Overwhelmingly, women were disturbed by the discovery, with many claiming it was necessary to change “twice a day”.
“Fresh ones in the morning, and then again after my evening shower,” one wrote.
“Morning and night,” another agreed.
While some thought the new data was so shocking, it simply couldn’t be true.
“This has to be fake, surely no one waits a week to change their underwear,” one pushed.
“I absolutely don’t believe that,” another agreed, as one said: “No way, sorry I don’t believe that.”
Women however weren’t completely guilt-free, with 9 per cent admitting to reusing their undies for 7 days before washing, according to the research.
Researchers did suggest that while being unhygienic, the delay in washing items could be as a result of the ongoing cost of living crisis.
The survey showed that 36 per cent of people in the UK have had to change their washing habits due to rising costs.
Local data has showed Australians have also been “cutting back” in response to rising costs, with utilities, groceries and housing prices all soaring.
