MATT West - or "Westy" as he's known - has been fishing our waterways for as long as he can remember.
Camping with the family back in the '90s with his brother Mark West - also a gun fisho - he's got fond memories as a toddler of swimming at the Mary River Bridge and other croc hot spots.
When the crocs got bigger than his dad's 12-foot tinny he got a bigger boat and was one of the first people to fish the top sections of the Tommy Cut barrages, often catching cricket scores of barra on lure and fly.
Westy's been working at iconic territory tackle store Fishing and Outdoor World for 11 years now, and is well remembered for his win at the Barra Classic in 2010 where he cast weedless soft plastics for a convincing victory.
He's always up for a chat so don't hesitate to drop in and say g'day if you're going past.
His hot tip for the run off is to use soft plastic vibes and large, texas rigged soft plastics, casting upstream and working back with the current.
Trolling oversize shad style plastics will work well for the big girls.
