MUD crabs will keep coming through the door and flying off the shelves this dry season, with a rain heavy Wet helping feed and bread them in Top End waters.
Lifelong crabber Bradley Roe said run-off from a good Wet would improve the quality and quantity of stocks.
“We’re hoping for a good season, a lot of water where good crabs can move around and hopefully they can breed,” he said.

“There’s a lot more food around if the water’s right up, hopefully in the dry season we should be able to see a lot more.”
Mr Roe said recreational crabbers were expecting to see much better loots in their pots. “I generally go out once a month, this year it hasn’t been a good year, we might get six crabs out of 10 pots, crabbing all day.” he said.

“You might get 10 or 15 for the day this year. But just take enough home for a feed, then you can go back in a few months and get another feed later.”
Mr Barra owner Niall Atkinson said ever since coronavirus, people had been going crazy for crabs.
“Last year was pretty tough on crabs but this year will be good and prices will be low,” he said.
