THE team from Real Estate Central recently headed super wide of Darwin to explore some shoals half way to Indonesia.

Tales of brutal bust offs; quadruple hook-ups and fish so thick you could walk on them were the result.

At the peak of a particularly hot late afternoon bite, Darwin's version of Bear Grylls, Michael VanDeGraaf, hooked what he thought was a trophy red emperor.

After a protracted tug of war, and with the sun setting on the horizon a bunch of keen anglers peered over the gunwale for the first sight of the scaly leviathan.

To everyone's amazement it wasn't a trophy emperor, but an absolute monster of a jack, the likes of which the boys had never seen before.

It was never weighed or measured, but had to be every bit of 10 kilos, if not more.

I believe the world record stands at 12kgs, and this beast would have given it a nudge for sure.

The wide shoals from Darwin are an exciting and viable option in larger boats at this time of year, offering a mix of both tropical and temperate fish.

I'm sure we'll see more exciting species and captures coming from these areas over the ensuing years.

Take care and catch ya on the water.
