THE Northern Territory’s first ever double-tagged barramundi has been caught by Mackay fisho Ryan Curtis, who was visiting the NT for a fishing trip with his friend Warren Franklin.
Heading in for the night after a day on the water, the duo had one more beer each to finish when they saw three barra on a snag and thought they’d have one last cast.

“We were actually going into tea to have fish that night, and I think I had two casts and that’s when it hit,” Mr Curtis said.
“I didn’t actually realise it was tagged at the time until my mate said ‘It’s tagged, it’s tagged’, we were just yelling and screaming – it was a big one, 98cm.”
Mr Curtis said his friend, Warren Franklin, well and truly deserved his share in the prize.
“It was a team effort to get it in so it was a no-brainer – he netted it for me,” he said.
Mr Franklin picked up $5000 thanks to his mate and said he was keen to keep the winning partnership going.
“I was very appreciative to be out there fishing and to jag $5000 from the man who pulled in a $10,000 barra,” he said.

“We’ll probably do a fair bit more fishing I think.”
Along with another trip, Mr Curtis looks forward to spending his prizemoney on more fishing gear.
