ONE of the $10,000 tagged barra released by Tourism Minister Natasha Fyles at Nightcliff jetty has already been caught, with local Will Riddick quick to get to the fish before it got too far.
Mr Riddick said while his homework on where to catch the winning fish paid off, half the battle was reeling it in.

“I saw the video on TV and I thought ‘I’m pretty sure I know where this is’, so I went down there, the girlfriend went to work and I thought ‘here’s my chance, I’m going’,” he said.
“I was very fortunate to get it because just as I got it up on the rocks the hooks pulled and it bounced back into the water, I had to jump on it and just managed to get the fish.”
Mr Riddick said he noticed the tag before he’d properly caught it.

“It moved pretty quickly, I had to scramble down the rocks and get down real low because I knew the hook would straighten and it did,” he said. “
There were a few yahoos, that’s for sure. I went home and had a few celebratory beers over the weekend.”
