A BOAT skipper has been caught on film while perched atop of an outboard engine as his boat sped along a Top End river.
The young barefoot man on the Honda four-stroke motor appeared to be the only person aboard the 4m aluminium fishing boat as it passed at speed between the bank and another boat, missing both by metres.
The people on the other boat were filming and cheering him on.
He was not wearing a safety killswitch cord or a lifejacket.

The video, which was provided anonymously to the NT News, has been handed to police, who are investigating.
The man who brought the video to the police's attention was stunned.
"I'm totally against that and those bow waves create erosion in the banks and mangroves are nursery for fish," he said.
"You're also destroying the creek there.
"It's just hooning at it's best."
The NT pleasure craft regulations say: "A person must not navigate or use a small craft carelessly, negligently, recklessly or at a speed or in a manner that is dangerous to or likely to cause injury to a person or damage to property, including the small craft".
The fine for breaking that rule is $7200.
And there is a $1440 fine for driving "at a speed that the wash from the vessel endangers the safety of a person, boat or structure".
