THE principal of Essington International School has resigned amid reports of an internal conflict on the school board about his leadership.
In a statement obtained by the NT News, the school board confirmed that David Cannon has tendered his resignation after 20 years working at Essington in the role of principal and CEO.
“Late last year the board announced that Mr Cannon was taking long service leave for the first school term of this year,” the statement said.

“However, after having the time and space to contemplate his future, Mr Cannon has tendered his resignation to the Board in his role as Principal/CEO.
“The board and the wider community collectively acknowledge Mr Cannon’s 20 year tenure and his pivotal role in the school’s growth.
“The board wishes Mr Cannon all the very best for this next stage of his life.”
The school’s interim principal Brian Kennelly confirmed that he will be taking over the role permanently after Mr Cannon finishes his long service leave on April 12.
“I’m looking forward to getting to the meeting all the parent’s and teachers,” he said.
“My top priority coming into this role will be staff wellbeing and ensuring the have the necessary skills to get the best results for our students.”

Originally from New Zealand, Mr Kennelly has more than 30 years of education leadership experience.
He was the principal of Kinross Wolaroi School in New South Wales for a decade before moving to Adelaide where he has been working as an “education and leadership Adviser” according to his LinkedIn profile.
