A SCOOT for two will become Darwin’s newest go-to date with a new upgrade set to make e-scooters more romantic and practical.

This week Neuron Mobility released its group rides service, which allows a rider to unlock and pay for up to five e-scooters on one account.

E-scooter regulars Rachel Attley and Laura Nicklin were thrilled with the service.

“My friend didn’t have a bank card so we had to get another friend to add hers,” Ms Attley said.

“This will make it much easier.”

Group rides will cost $1 to unlock each e-scooter and then 38 cents per minute of use.

It can also be used with Neuron’s three-day, weekly and monthly passes.

Neuron Mobility chief executive Zachary Wang said the launch was timed with Valentine’s Day.

“Hopefully it will encourage some romantic riding and great memories in Darwin,” he said.

“We’re always looking for new ways to tempt people out of cars into more environmentally friendly and fun alternatives.”

Ms Attley anticipated e-scooter dates would become popular.

“I’d do Valentine’s Day with scooters,” she laughed.

“Go down the Esplanade and have a little picnic.”

Neuron also launched its world-first e-scooter helmet lock in Darwin.

The app-controlled lock secures helmets to the e-scooter and is unlocked at the start of each booking.

Riders will be charged a replacement fee if they do not return the helmet to the lock.

It aims to increase rider safety and reduce the number of abandoned and missing helmets.

“It’s impossible to eliminate risk entirely but we are constantly innovating, often hand-in-hand with our city partners, to improve the safety of our riders,” Mr Wang said.

Ms Attley said the upgrade was needed.

“I’ve been noticing the past couple of days helmets left everywhere and people not wearing helmets,” she said.

“It’s a good solution to help it.”

She encouraged others to hop on the scooter craze.

“You definitely need to try it, it’s a really good experience,” she said.
