SCOOT over cars, buses and bikes — electric scooters have arrived in Darwin.
The 12-month trial of Neuron Mobility’s e-scooters began this morning with 100 machines being rolled out around Darwin, to be followed by 150 more in February.
Neuron Mobility chief executive Zachary Wang was thrilled to be awarded the permit to make his company Darwin’s first e-scooter service provider.
“We have worked closely with Council to realise their vision to deliver an innovative and safe e-scooter service that integrates into the city’s transport system,” he said.
The e-scooters can only be operated around Darwin City.
To operate, riders must download the Neuron-E scooter Sharing app to select a daily, weekly or monthly payment plan, or to pay by the minute.
The scooters are geofenced and will not work outside of specified areas, and have GPS devices so they can be tracked.
Riders will also not be allowed to park scooters near water.
While fully charged they can travel up to 60km at up to about 15km/h. Helmets must be worn at all times and riders must be over 18-years-old.
Mr Wang said the benefits of e-scooters would be seen immediately.

“We see car trips being replaced because in some cities its really expensive to park in the city so once these come in it’ll reduce short trips in cars,” he said.
“The environment emissions are really bad when it comes to short trips … so we do see electric mobility coming to the city and reducing emissions.”
