The Territory’s first Dumpling Festival proved to be a spicy hit, with a unique take on the popular dish winning the hearts of many.
Thousands of people descended on the Darwin Waterfront for a taste of the inaugural event’s flavours.
Organiser and Yogi’s Way owner Bhairab Yogi said he was expecting about 10,000 people to line up at the stalls throughout the afternoon and into the evening.
His own favourite among the offerings was his restaurant’s renowned buffalo momo.
“It’s a great response, I think everyone’s enjoying dumplings,” he said.
“The concept was just to bring out the dumplings around all the people and to do a purely dumpling festival… and that’s what’s happening.”
Yogi said he hoped to continue the festival in the coming years.
Friends Ross Turner, Alexis Miller, Megan Hughes, and Kim Hutcheon said each dish they had tried so far was “delicious”.
One of the favourites in their bowls – and spotted on several plates throughout the crowd – was a laksa dumpling.
Mr Turner said he hoped to see the unique twist on the dish make another appearance at the Laksa Festival later in the year.
