THE Darwin Waterfront’s Recreation Lagoon and beach area has been temporarily closed to swimmers due to recent weather conditions.

A Darwin Waterfront Corporation spokesman said the lagoon is being closed as a precautionary measure after they received test results on Thursday afternoon which indicates a decline in water quality.

“The recent extreme heavy rainfall and dense cloud cover is likely to have impacted the water quality conditions in the Recreation Lagoon, as experienced in previous wet seasons,” he said.

“Daily testing will be undertaken in order to monitor conditions and the lagoon will reopen when water quality is returned to a high standard.”
