DARWINITES woke to the welcome sound of rain this morning after more than a week of heatwave conditions.

On Sunday the region welcomed a deluge with the wet weather continuing overnight.

In Darwin, 16mm of rain was recorded since 9am yesterday at both the the airport and harbour stations.

And 41mm was recorded at Dum In Mirrie, just off the coast of Dundee Beach.
