GROUNDWORK on Darwin council’s Rainbow Roundabout has begun, as the LGBTIQA community prepares for the upcoming Darwin Pride festival.
Darwin Pride committee members Ben Graetz said not only was the roundabout an important show of respect and support to the LGBTIQA community but it would also add some vibrancy to the city.

“As part of the community and as a locally born man I’m so thrilled to have the support from city of Darwin,” he said.
“To have the rainbow roundabout, I’m really excited … I’m passionate about this city, I’m passionate about having a vibrant city, we want to get the tourists back here, we want to celebrate.”
Darwin lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the garden was the first piece of beautifying Daly St — one of his most passionate commitments to constituents.
“It's very easy to put down some paint, but then you have to re-coat it every year,” he said.
“With a living structure it will be there all the time.

“It will look really good and everyone in Darwin will know the purpose of it and what it means.”
Work on the Rainbow Roundabout will continue from today through Friday and will be maintained by City of Darwin in preparation for Pride Week from September 19 to September 22.
