THE Darwin Cenotaph’s Eternal Flame has been lit up electronically to help it keep “burning” through the Territory’s elements.
While Darwin RSL president Steven Gloster said the Eternal Flame, which was funded thanks to a $1 million Federal Government grant, was a long time coming, the modern, practical design of the finished product was worth the wait.
“The main reason it’s electronic is because of cyclones and things like that, it’ll get blown out,” he said.
“I think the running costs make it cheaper too, but it’s mainly climatic conditions in the Territory
