In an Australian first, Supercars fans will get to witness the full fleet of their favourite race cars cruise the streets of Darwin before they hit the Hidden Valley Raceway.
The new event, Track to Town, will involve the high powered race cars driven into Darwin city, parked up at Darwin Esplanade, before returning to Hidden Valley.
While at The Esplanade the drivers will also do a signing session for fans.
Track to Town will take place on June 13 from 4pm to 6pm, allowing motorsport enthusiasts to see the iconic Australian Supercars up close and personal.
It will also feature cars bearing Indigenous artworks for the Supercars Indigenous round.
The popular Night Transporter Convoy returns the night before Track to Town, revving up the city on June 12.
Dozens of B-double trucks will drive from Hidden Valley, to Palmerston, into the Darwin CBD and back, with thousands of people expected to line the streets and cheer on the big rigs.
Celebrations in the Darwin CBD for the convoy will include a Welcome to Country, face painting and music at Raintree Park.
The action kicks off in the CBD from 4pm with the convoy to leave Hidden Valley at 5.45pm and be in the city about 6.50pm.
Supercars chief executive Shane Howard said he was “incredibly proud” to hold the Indigenous round in the Top End this year.
“It will be special to kick it off with the annual transporter parade and for the first time, a full-field Track to Town event on Thursday night that I encourage all of Darwin to get out and watch,” he said.
“The roar of 24 Supercars through the streets is something we are very proud to be bringing to life in Darwin this year.
“The return of the Night Transporter Convoy is something we are all looking forward to. It’s an incredible spectacle that brings together the community and fans from all over, creating a fantastic atmosphere that sets the stage for an exciting weekend at Hidden Valley.
“The Triple Crown is a unique celebration of culture, community, and motorsport, and it is a privilege to showcase the beautiful artwork of Indigenous artists on our cars.”
Major Events Minister Brent Potter said Supercars brought $21.7m to the Territory economy last year.
“Nowhere else in the country will you see Australian Supercars cruise the streets except for Darwin thanks to our great partnership with the Repco Superrcars Championship,” he said.
“This is such exciting news to build on, from having the only Supercars Indigenous Round born here to now having the first time Supercars do a convoy on the streets in Australia.”
