Kyle Richards lifts the lid on infamous Real Housewives clash

Real Housewives star Kyle Richards has revealed shocking new details about what happened off-camera during one of the show’s most explosive scenes.

RHOBH's iconic Amsterdam fight

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards has lifted the lid on exactly what went down off-camera after arguably one of the biggest showdowns in the franchise’s history.

To refresh your memory: in season five back in 2015, during a meal on the very first day of a group holiday to Amsterdam, Kyle’s sister, Kim Richards, had an explosive clash with fellow castmate Lisa Rinna over her sobriety.

The conversation quickly escalated, with Kim screeching at Lisa, before throwing out a very suggestive comment about her husband, actor Harry Hamlin.

“Let’s talk about the husband … Let’s not talk about what you don’t want out,” Kim said pointedly, causing a furious Lisa to absolutely unleash, lunging for her before smashing a wine glass on the table of the crowded restaurant.

It remains one of the most dramatic moments in the show’s history.

It was one of the most vicious confrontations that had ever played out on the show – and almost resulted in the rest of the trip being cancelled after just one night.

“We all went back to the hotel and everybody was like, ‘we’re done, we’re leaving, we’re all going back to LA’,” Kyle revealed to news.com.au, admitting it was “the most shocking” moment she’d experienced during her 12-year run on the show.

“The producers had to sit us down and basically beg us to like, hang in there. It was a disaster.”

Kyle - who’s currently appearing in the newest season, which is available to stream now on Hayu - explained that she felt like she had to “escape” as the chaos unfolded.

“I was so mortified. Since I was a little girl, if something stresses me, I just have to run away,” she said.

“I was like, ‘I can’t handle this’, and there were strangers there (in the restaurant), so I was embarrassed. The reunion that season was a disaster too, horrible. That was definitely the worst. It was so shocking to be sitting there, seeing that.”

Kyle also opened up about backlash she’s received in the current season over comments she made to castmate Sutton Stracke.

During a heated conversation with RHOBH newcomer Diana Jenkins at a birthday party in a recent episode, Sutton revealed she’d previously suffered two miscarriages.

Kyle initially reacted to the news by saying that it felt like “bulls**t”, adding that it was coming “out of the blue” and pointing out she’d “never heard this before”.

Although Kyle was later seen apologising to Sutton on-camera, the scene caused plenty of outrage among viewers.

Addressing the criticism, Kyle explained that she’d woken up the next morning and felt “terrible” about what she’d said to her friend at the party.

“Obviously I was over-served, the drinks were flowing, and I felt terrible because I love Sutton, we’re very good friends,” she said, adding that she’d called Sutton to apologise and that they’d “made up”.

But because that call was made off-camera, the pair also needed to be seen reconciling while the production crew was there – where, according to Kyle, Sutton’s reaction was very different.

“I was annoyed. I was like, ‘You were fine when I apologised to you on the phone, and now you want to drag me!” she said.

“And then people were like, ‘That’s not a nice apology’, and I was like, ‘Because I’m annoyed she’s acting like she doesn’t want to accept it, when she already did!’

Kyle added: “Those are the things (on the show) that are annoying.”

Kyle’s weathered her fair share of drama during her time as a Housewife, and admitted that she has considered walking away from the franchise “many times”.

“One of my best friends, he’d say to me, ‘five years and you’re out’. That was our plan. But I get sucked back in, it’s like the mafia,” she told news.com.au.

“There’s been many times when I’ve been like, ‘why would I put myself through this? My husband supports me, I don’t need to be doing this'.”

Ultimately, Kyle said she was grateful for the opportunities she’s had to work on her acting and production projects while on the show - and keeps signing on as she does still “enjoy a lot of the moments”.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 12 is available to stream now on Hayu.
