The Weeknd’s Australian tour: How to get the best tickets

After postponing his tour earlier this year due to “unforeseen circumstances”, the Canadian superstar will finally make his long-awaited return to Australia. Here’s how you can get tickets.

The Weeknd postpones Australian tour

Canadian pop superstar The Weeknd’s on-again, off-again After Hours Til Dawn stadium concerts in Australia are back on again.

In a shock announcement, the Blinding Lights stream king has rescheduled the November 2023 concerts he announced last August, postponed less than three weeks before kick-off last November and officially cancelled in April.

The Weeknd teased the new shows with a cryptic post of a photo of him with a kangaroo on Instagram a week ago.

“I feel a strong pull to perform in Australia before moving on to the next chapter and want to make sure you all know I hadn’t forgotten about you,” he said.

“When I return now, it will be the right time, and I promise it will be such a special

experience. I can’t wait to see you all!” he said in the tour announcement.

But that pull doesn’t extend to Brisbane where he had originally booked to open the Australian leg of his After Hours Til Dawn futuristic concert extravaganza last year.

“Due to schedule and logistical constraints, the After Hours ‘Til Dawn tour will not be making its way to New Zealand or Brisbane in 2024 and there will be no further cities added,” the promoter stated in the tour announcement.

About 600,000 tickets to nine stadium concerts in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne were sold last September, generating more than $100 million in gross box office takings.

Those shows were mysteriously pulled in early November “due to unforeseen circumstances”.

They were officially cancelled in April, with Live Nation issuing refunds to all ticketholders as they continued to “work through the rescheduling process”.

His new 2024 tour run, an “extension of his record-breaking 2022/2023 world stadium tour” will open in Melbourne at Marvel Stadium on October 5 and 6 and then continue to Sydney’s Accor Stadium on October 22 and 23.

But with a big gap in the middle of the Melbourne and Sydney dates, The Weeknd and his Australian promoter Live Nation may have extra shows on hold.
