Arctic Monkeys deny claims from the Orwells they play the same show every night

CONTRARY to claims made by a support band on their world tour, the Arctic Monkeys have denied playing the same show repeatedly to fans.

BRITISH band the Arctic Monkeys have hit back at claims their latest tour is the same show each night.

American band the Orwells supported the Monkeys for several months and claimed the tour was “synchronised” and “if you saw them once you’d pretty much seen every date they played.”

The band even stated that Monkeys frontman Alex Turner frequently used the same ad-libs.

Turner was not bothered by the remarks.

“They should have been out trying to get laid instead of watching us every night,” Turner said today.

However he admitted the band’s biggest tour, supporting acclaimed album AM, had a set structure which has been proven to be successful.

“I don’t think that’s fair (to call it synchronised),” Turner said. “There comes a time on a tour when something works and you tend to leave it alone. We have been changing it around a little bit. You can’t mess around with it too much. It’s almost like the show isn’t designed to be watched by the same person every night.

“Nowadays people share the setlists, but I’m by no means f---ing phoning it in. It’s not like we have (pre-recorded) tracks we’re up there f---ing doing it.”

Their biggest Australian headline tour kicks off in Sydney tonight.

The band have chosen an Australian song for their appearance on Triple J’s Like a Version segment this week.

They have opted for an ARIA winning rock band, which will be revealed on Friday on Triple J.

However today Turner regretted not picking a Kylie Minogue song.

He would have opted for lesser known recent single Get Outta My Way, a favourite of Monkeys drummer Matt Helders.

“We should have done Kylie,” Turner said. “We would have done that song (sings) ‘Did you move on to a perfect stranger’. Get Outta My Way. Matt was just playing it the other night. He’d have to sing that high bit where she goes “get what you need” though.”

Pop star Miley Cyrus recently recorded a cover of the Monkeys’ Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High for an MTV concert.

“We enjoyed it,” Turner said. “What’s not to like? I’ve never seen it just heard it.”

Drummer Helders watched the clip on line.

“She’s grabbing hold of her junk,” Helders said.

Turner approved of Cyrus’ country twang on the chorus.

“I like how country she sounded. It’s good our tune brought that back out of her. Maybe Papa Billy told her to do that?”

Turner said the band are excited to showcase AM in Australia, where the album has been wildly embraced.

“We love this record we made we, felt like we made a step forward,” Turner said. “I still feel that way about those songs. They’re me favourite parts of the set every night. It makes me feel a bit taller when they’re the songs people respond to.”

Arctic Monkeys play Qantas Credit Union Arena in Sydney tonight, Brisbane Ent Centre May 7, Rod Laver Arena May 9, Adelaide Ent Centre May 10 and Perth Arena May 13.
