Taylor Swift slams comments made about who she writes about saying they’re sexist

TAYLOR Swift has a new album out, which means more speculation about which ex-boyfriends inspired the songs. And she’s sick of hearing it.

TAYLOR Swift has hit back at claims that most of her songs are written about former boyfriends, saying the remarks are nothing short of sexist.

The 24-year-old opened up on 2Day FM’s breakfast telling Sophie Monk and Merrick Watts: “They use you writing songs about your life as a way to play detective, and for me I have a really strict personal policy that I never name names.”

She said media reports that tried to match her ex-flames to her songs were purely speculative.

“You are going to have people who are going to see the depth at which you approached the song - the fact you put your real emotions into it,” Swift added.

“And then you are going to have the people who are going to say, ‘Oh you know like she just writes stories about her ex boyfriends’ and I think frankly that's a very sexist angle to take.”

Swift reckons her male counterparts in the music industry don’t have to deal with that sort of press.

“No one says that about Ed Sheeran, no one says it about Bruno Mars. They’re all writing songs about their exes, their current girlfriends, their love life and no one raises a red flag there.”

Swift’s fifth album 1989 is out in Australia this week, and there’s already chatter about which of her famous former flames inspired which songs.

Some in the media were abuzz last week when the album’s second single landed and appeared to contain references to her doomed relationship with Harry Styles from the band One Direction.

Swift’s comments on 2Day this morning follow the breakfast team’s interview last week with UK singer Olly Murs, who defended his good mate, Styles.

“I s’pose it’s like, come on, you know what I mean, let it go, write something new that isn’t about Harry,” Murs said in the interview.

“It was two years ago and he’s still getting a lashing for it.

“Apparently the never ever ever getting back together (song) was about him, it’s like wow, he’s getting loads of songs written about him.”
