Nicole Scherzinger has lifted the lid on the dark side of performing with The Pussycat Dolls, claiming it was a “difficult time”.

The US performer, 46, who fronted the girl group from 2003 until 2010 and then again from 2019 until 2021, told the Sunday Times in a new interview the five-piece were “never allowed” to sleep during their relentless tours.

“It was such a difficult time, struggling and battling your own demons and issues and always being on the road, and they never allowed sleep in our schedule,” Scherzinger told the publication. “I mean, it was just a recipe for disaster, to be honest with you.”

While the dance troupe emerged to become one of the best-selling girl groups of all time, releasing a flurry of chart-topping hits including Don’t Cha, When I Grow Up and Buttons, Scherzinger said she struggled with her health at the height of their fame.

“They have rules set in place [these days] and, you know, it’s more of a woke community now,” Scherzinger said.

“But it wasn’t like that when we were doing it. It was just kind of like, ‘Work them to the bone until they’re passed out.’

“It was just hard for me to sleep. I always had sleeping issues.”

It comes after former Dolls member Kaya Jones, who was part of the group for a year from 2003, claimed in April last year she was forced to terminate a pregnancy in order to remain a part of the girl group.

“I was told to get rid of it,” Jones, now 39, alleged on Fox Nation’s Tucker Carlson Today.

When asked who allegedly pushed the abortion, she responded, “The powers that be”.

She further alleged that if other Dolls were to get pregnant, they would be “fired,” and so she “got rid” of her child “in between rehearsals”.

Despite their success, selling 55 million records worldwide, the Dolls only released two albums before disbanding by 2010.

In late 2019, Scherzinger took to Instagram to tease a reunion with her former group members, including Carmit Bachar, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Sutta and Kimberly Wyatt.

The girls then made their first live appearance together in a decade that year on the finale of UK’s The X Factor: Celebrity, further announcing plans for a world tour.

They went on to promote their new single React for a series of TV performances, including a very controversial slot on Australia’s Sunrise which was widely slammed as “inappropriate” for breakfast television.

By 2022, plans for a world tour had fallen apart, which led to the group’s founder Robin Antin filing a lawsuit against Scherzinger for breach of contract and other allegations.

Speaking about the lawsuit to Sunday Times, Scherzinger said “it was a complete shock, disappointment and heartbreak for me.”

“But I’m not a victim; I’m a victor. And I stood my ground,” she added.

“I knew where I stood, which is why I responded with eight counterclaims. But, you know, I’m hopeful for the future. I’m very hopeful.”
