Avicii’s new album to feature rock superstars Bon Jovi, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and Chris Martin

IT is no surprise to find Coldplay Chris Martin on Avicii’s list of guests for his second album. But the other potential collaborators may shock you.

COULD a Swedish superstar dance music producer prove to be the saviour of rock?

Avicii gave Coldplay their latest hit — and a pulse — with A Sky Full Of Stars and now Chris Martin will return the favour by collaborating on the Swedish producer’s second record.

But the rollcall of other potential rock gods on the album due out later this year should raise eyebrows among their respective fans.

The beat chief, known as Tim Bergling on his passport, has Jon Bon Jovi, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and System Of A Down’s Serj Tankian lined up to add their talents to his tunes, according to Rolling Stone.

With electronic dance music still dominating the global airwaves and charts, it is no surprise that some of rock’s biggest voices would agree to work with a man proven to have the Midas touch.

The 24-year-old debut “artist” album true was one of the biggest sellers in Australia last year and generated a clutch of hit singles, including Wake Me Up, Addicted To You and Hey Brother.

His record was perfectly timed to straddle two of the dominant music trends last year — folky roots music and dancefloor beats.

Combining the two proved to be chart gold.

While none of the vocalists on True were credited, the worldwide success of Wake Me Up served as a massive boost to the career of its singer Aloe Blacc ahead of the release of his own record.

No doubt the massive names who make the cut on the new Avicii album will be “featured” rather than uncredited.

Not only would the dual star power of the young Swedish producer and his A-list singers almost guarantee airplay, it could help restore rock to relevance in the current musical climate.

Although the new Foo Fighters record might be able to manage that feat when they release their next record in November.

Avicii has revealed the Armstrong track is titled No Pleasing a Woman while he declares Martin to be a “confidante”.

“Chris has been like a brother. He helps me out with my nutritionist,” he told Rolling Stone.

Avicii is no stranger to the rock fraternity. He worked with Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger on True.

And the current crop of electronic dance music names have also reached out to their rock brothers in recent years with projects from Skrillex and The Doors, Foo Fighters and Deadmaus and the Chemical Brothers with Noel Gallagher.
