Acclaimed actor and singer Kris Kristofferson has died peacefully at home, a few years after retiring from showbusiness for good.

Legendary singer and actor Kris Kristofferson has died at the age of 88, it’s been reported today.
The acclaimed country singer-songwriter who also starred in films including the 1976 version of A Star Is Born alongside Barbra Streisand, died “peacefully” at his home in Maui, Hawaii on September 28, surrounded by family, according to People. No cause of death has yet been given.
“It is with a heavy heart that we share the news our husband/father/grandfather, Kris Kristofferson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28 at home. We’re all so blessed for our time with him. Thank you for loving him all these many years, and when you see a rainbow, know he’s smiling down at us all,” his family said in a statement shared with the outlet.
A multiple Grammy winner who was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2004, Kristofferson also won plaudits for his acting work, including a Golden Globe award for Best Actor in a musical for A Star Is Born.
He also starred in the popular Blade franchise alongside Wesley Snipes, playing the role of Whistler.
Musically, Kristofferson had hits including Me and Bobby McGee, For The Good Times and Help Me Make It Through the Night during his 1970s heyday.
In 1985 he joined fellow country music luminaries Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash to form the country music supergroup the Highwaymen, a group that released three successful studio albums.
Kristofferson’s death comes three and a half years after he announced his retirement, following what was to be his final concert in Florida in February 2020.
Kristofferson was a father to eight children and is survived by his third wife, Lisa Meyers, who he wed in 1983.
